E-invoicing compliance and regulatory updates - Ecuador

Electronic Invoicing Ecuador

Ecuador has gradually introduced the clearance model system, and since 2014, the government has made e-invoices for both private and public organisations mandatory.

Recently, Ecuador has introduced the e-reporting obligation to different taxpayers. Currently, e-invoicing is mandatory for the following three main groups of taxpayers:

  • Those involved in commercialization activity in heavy machinery,
  • Individuals or entities carrying out wholesale and retail operation of liquefied gas, and
  • Individuals and companies not included in the previous groups with transactions with the State for amounts equal or greater than USD 1,000.

Taxable persons are required to register and get authorisation from the Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI), the Tax Authority, in order to issue e-invoices. All invoices must be sent to the SRI for validation and e-signature (QR code generation). Once this validation is done, the invoices are forwarded to the respective buyers. The invoice format is XML.

The responsible tax authority is the Servicio De Rentas Internas (SRI).

Basware Services

Basware supports receiving electronic invoice documents through a partnership with GoSocket.

All e-invoices in Ecuador must be cleared by the Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI). The issuer must obtain the QR code (validation and e-signature) prior to sending the invoice to the issuer. The QR code will be included in the electronic invoice. These steps can either be done manually for each invoice on the SRI platform or automatically through the invoicing partner.

Interoperability

Basware currently has no connection to any interoperability partners in Ecuador. However, we do have local partners supporting the Basware Network with access to governmental portals.

Our advice

Many Latin American countries have adopted an invoice clearance model, including Ecuador.

For buyers with a significant volume, Basware can provide a solid solution to automate the invoice receiving process by connecting to the government SAT environment through our partner and certified provider, GoSocket. We advise automating the invoice receiving process by connecting to the governmental platform through the Basware Network.

For suppliers, a manual upload to the governmental portal is possible. For larger volumes we would advise to establish an automated connection.
