E-invoicing compliance and regulatory updates - Argentina

Electronic Invoicing Argentina

In 2015, Argentina began to roll out their progressive Business-to-Business (B2B) mandate, completing it in 2019 with the plan to implement the e-invoicing mandate for all entities in Argentina. The government body regulating e-invoices is the Administración Federal de Ingresos Públicos (AFIP).

Generally, invoices are known as eFactura and can be issued either through the AFIP portal for manual issuance of invoices or using invoice software for both manual and automated invoices. Regardless of how the invoice is issued, entities must apply the Electronic Authorization Code (Código de Autorización Electrónico - CAE) to be able to report invoices to AFIP.

As of March 2021, Argentina has been gradually rolling out a requirement to have a QR code on every e-invoice. The implementation schedule progressed as follows:

  • 1 March 2021: More than 10 million ARS (ca. EUR 92.000)
  • 1 April 2021: 10 million ARS > net taxes > 2 million ARS (ca. EUR 18.500)
  • 1 May 2021: 2 million ARS > net taxes > 500.000 ARS (ca. EUR 4.600)
  • 1 June 2021: 500.000 ARS > net taxes

As of 1 June 2021, all taxpayers are required to add QR codes in their e-invoices. The QR code will need to have information such as the date of the emission, issuer CIUT number, total amount of the invoice, and receiver document number among various other requirements.
