We aim to foster environmental responsibility among our employees, customers and suppliers to make sustainable business happen

Basware is committed to minimizing the environmental impacts of our activities worldwide. We aim to foster environmental awareness and responsibility among our employees, customers and suppliers. We have a corporate environmental policy, which outlines how we account for environmental challenges in our business operations.

Sustainability made simple - our product innovations

We have innovated to help enterprises decrease their carbon footprint by providing a variety of sustainable solutions, such as e-Invoicing, procure-to-pay (P2P) automation and holistic digitization of organizations’ processes.

Shrink Your Footprint with E-Invoicing

The environmental impact of invoicing is often overlooked. But the sad truth is when paper reaches the end of its life cycle, it is sent to a landfill or incinerated, thus producing greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) as it breaks down. When we, as a society, produce and dispose of these paper products at a faster pace than the plants and trees can consume the CO2, we create an overabundance of CO2 in our atmosphere.

And the disproportionate amount of energy required to produce these invoices equals the annual energy consumption of 20 million households.

Basware carbonfootprint

Basware solves this issue with automation via its Basware electronic procure-to-pay (P2P) services. By adopting electronic invoicing (e-invoicing), you can not only reduce the amount of paper used within your organization, but also reinforce your green credentials by reducing CO2 emissions. This means we make it easier for you to quit paper, automate more of your process, and adhere to sustainable business practices.

Make it Easy to Be Sustainable

Plus, we are committed to continually evaluating ways to help our customers adopt sustainability practices. As such, in 2020, we introduced an invoice carbon footprint index to our industry-leading Analytics solution.

Using the CO2 dashboard, you can follow the development of your total emissions over time and benchmark your index against peer companies. You can also track the improvement of CO2 emissions per month as you onboard more suppliers to e-invoicing.

By presenting the environmental impact, in addition to efficiency and savings when they develop their procurement and finance processes, users have a constant and visible reminder of how even our small actions add up to big savings.

Track Suppliers’ Sustainability

Automation also unlocks Visible Commerce, allowing your business to be more environmentally sustainable. How? Because your finance and procurement professionals will gain the visibility needed to make informed decisions about who you do business with based on the impact they have on the environment and society. Track suppliers' credentials on greenhouse gas emissions, use of conflict minerals, water conservation, and many other metrics.

“While our solutions innately shrink an enterprize’s carbon footprint, we don’t stop there. We have innovated, like with our carbon footprint index, to create tracking mechanisms that allow customers to monitor the impact of their ‘green’ actions. Plus, we are exploring ways to enhance the visibility on sustainability to other areas within the whole value chain of the P2P process in the future.”

Alwin Schauer, Chief Revenue Office

We’re continually seeking ways to reduce our company’s carbon footprint with actions such as improving the energy efficiency of our office locations, reducing business travel via collaborative technologies and online meeting tools, and considering renewable energy sources where feasible.
