Rhätische Bahn (RhB) is the largest railway operator in Switzerland. Partnering with Arcplace and Basware, RhB embarked on program of automation that would consolidate and streamline their financial operations.

Transporting circa 12 million travellers annually, Rhätische Bahn (RhB) is the backbone of the Graubünden Canton in Switzerland. As well as thousands of seasonal tourists, the rail network is popular with commuters and moves 760,000 tonnes of freight every year.

Rhätische Bahn is a multi-faceted business. Together with transport, construction, real estate, tourism and engineering are just a few of the sectors the company interacts with. As such, the streamlined sharing of information is key, which is why the company decided to move from manual invoice processing to the automated Basware Invoice solution.

  • RhB processes around 35,000 vendor invoices per year

  • A primarily manual paper-based process was in place

  • It proved time-consuming and there was a lack of transparency

  • Department silos made order matching difficult

  • RhB has a complex system IT landscape

  • Decentralised procurement processes across organisation

  • End users happy with existing manual process even though inefficient

  • Compliance with competence regulation was only possible manually

  • RhB digitised vendor invoices and employee expenses company-wide

  • Basware Invoice ensures compliance with competence regulation

  • Processing times are significantly reduced; transparency is enabled

  • Complete integration with RhB’s existing multi-ERP landscape

  • Employee training was able to take place online

  • 65,000 invoices processed between 2019 and Sept 2020

In partnership with Arcplace and following the success of the project so far, Rhätische Bahn plans to optimise and enlarge the scope of its Basware P2P solutions.
