Last night, when I should have been reading a book or watching Netflix, I found myself answering a series of questions around the topic of e-invoicing (also called electronic invoicing, electronic billing, and e-billing).

All of the questions together could effectively be summarized as: How to get started e-invoicing? This was a serious list of questions, mind you, coming from the national tax authority of an unnamed country we all know. Questions like: what are the main barriers to e-invoicing? What formats and channels are the right ones? These questions, and others like them, are answered in Basware’s latest e-Book: 6 Steps to e-Invoicing Success.

The first chapter of the book is a great place to start for anyone who really is just getting up to speed. It provides an introduction to e-invoicing, and to the e-invoicing landscape.

E-invoicing is more important than most companies realize: for one thing, it’s an opportunity to save millions of trees each year. It’s also possibly the single biggest contributor to efficient accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. E-invoicing is almost certainly much easier and more accessible than most of you realize.

Which is why e-invoicing is growing so quickly. On average, adoption is increasing by 20% year-on-year - with the most advanced countries showing a 40% rate increase. In less mature markets, like the US, the stats still tell us that 46% of companies are currently evaluating e-invoicing solutions, that 11%  are deploying right now, and that 25% having already deployed.

Add to that the growing tide of national governments around the world who have, or are in the process of, mandating e-invoicing, and I think you’ll agree that e-invoicing is fast becoming business as usual.

I don’t want to give away the whole e-book in one blog post - go check it out. You will learn what e-invoicing is and what it isn’t – which could help you avoid some of the pitfalls and half-measures out there.

We explain what real e-invoicing is, and how B2B networks play an important role in the ultimate success of your e-invoicing program. And, of course, we spell out the benefits and the measurable impact e-invoice sending and e-invoice receiving can have on your processes.

After all that, we’ll walk you through the next steps. Ultimately, we’ll help you get there.
