Connectivity Services portfolio streamlines internal process automation across network of 50 international offices

Basware, the leading provider of purchase to pay solutions, has been awarded a three-year contract to deliver its Connectivity Services to the Metso Group, a global supplier of sustainable technology and services for mining, construction, power generation, automation, recycling and the pulp and paper industries.

A longstanding Basware Business Transactions e-invoicing service customer, Metso receives a large number of invoices annually across its operations in Finland, Sweden and North America with more than 20% of global invoice processing currently automated.

Maintaining a consistent and reliable view of invoice processes across the organization is a key challenge, primarily due to the implementation of varied invoice processing solutions in different markets. Metso is extending the use of invoice automation across its international network, with the Basware Connectivity services, including scan and capture, supplier activation and supplier portal services, scheduled to be rolled out across dozens of Metso locations in Europe and North America as well as Latin America.

"We were looking for solutions to improve the quality of our processes, improve productivity and achieve better cost efficiencies. Increasing the share of e-invoices among the total number of invoices is one of our main goals.  The services offered by Basware support our goals globally," says Kari Littunen, SVP and head of Metso Financial Services.

With rollout of the complete solution scheduled for the end of 2010, the Connectivity Services will be implemented at Metso’s regional financial shared service centers. Key benefits of the Basware Connectivity services include reducing cost of handling per invoice, as well as improving the quality of transaction data available for financial decision-making. Thanks to the Supplier Activation and Supplier Portal services, Metso can enable and encourage more of its suppliers to use e-invoices rather than paper.

“We’re delighted to be selected to work with Metso as they consolidate their international purchase to pay processes,” says Esa Tihilä, SVP, Basware Corporation, “This initiative is a great example of how businesses with disparate office networks can standardize the performance of their internal processes and we’re confident that Basware’s Connectivity Services portfolio will play an important role in helping Metso achieve that goal.”

Launched earlier this year, Basware Connectivity is a portfolio of enabling services designed to increase the adoption of electronic document exchange in difficult economic times for businesses. Basware Connectivity services allow suppliers and buyers of all sizes and maturity to transact electronically across the Basware partner network to drive down processing costs and increase internal visibility between procurement and finance. Basware Connectivity can reduce transacting and processing costs by as much as 60% (Billentis: E-Invoicing / E-Billing in Europe 2009).
